IRON NEST Mission 5: Iron Road Walkthrough

Intercept the train, use AP on both armored emplacements and sound the war horn only after confirming the route is clear.

Evidence map reviewed: 2026-08-15

Evidence boundary

The mission reference, an indexed walkthrough and a Steam thread agree on the train, AP emplacements and war-horn gate. Fixed coordinates are omitted.

Mission 5 objective

Mission 5 is Iron Road. High Command warns that a reinforcement train is approaching Valle de Mula and provides a station, track alignment and timed waypoints. A second phase blocks the allied assault with two armored emplacements. The mission therefore tests a moving-target intercept, AP target handling and correct use of the war horn.

Intercept the train

Plot the station and every reported waypoint, then draw the straight rail alignment. Use the time reports to understand where the locomotive will be rather than firing at the station too early. Prepare the bearing, range, shell and charge for an intercept point before the train reaches it. After a hit, read the feed: the train may be destroyed, crippled or derailed with surviving cars and reinforcements still requiring fire.

Do not assume one spectacular hit completes every branch. If the train reaches the station, High Command redirects you to the station area and disembarked enemies. Follow the current mission message, not an obsolete card.

Clear the armored emplacements

The later field update identifies two armored emplacements using bearings and distances from friendly spotters. Plot each from the named origin and use AP. Ordinary blast ammunition can leave the armor intact. Confirm both emplacements are destroyed before using the war horn located near the fire-control area/map table.

The horn is a gate, not a victory button. Sounding it early sends allied infantry into surviving guns and can cause mission failure. Only signal after the required armored positions are confirmed neutralized and the mission explicitly asks for the assault signal.

Completion and troubleshooting

  • Train shot misses: recheck the time and waypoint; a moving target needs an intercept, not its earlier location.
  • Train is hit but the mission continues: read whether cars, reinforcements or the station area remain.
  • Emplacement survives a direct hit: confirm AP, origin and exact target point.
  • Horn causes casualties: it was sounded before both required positions were confirmed destroyed.
  • No stand-down message: continue following the latest priority message; optional town targets are not a substitute for an unfinished required phase.

Times and coordinates are taken from the current run's teleprinter because mission state can vary. The reusable answer is the sequence: plot, intercept, verify, use AP, verify again, then signal.
